Reduction in the cost of a professional service is indeed an uncommon event. Such a rarity is upon us! The new ‘Gübelin Gem Lab Tariff: 2008’ (enclosed) lists a reduction of almost 8% - across the board - on our 2007 prices, for companies outside Switzerland. This reduction has been made possible by a re-interpretation of VAT regulations by the Swiss Tax Authority. We are happy to pass on this advantage, in full, to our foreign clients.

Less rare have been years during which the Gübelin Gem Lab has set new records. Thanks to the trust and confidence placed in us by our clients, the number of gemstones tested in 2007 increased by more than a third compared to the previous year. This represents the highest number in the more than 80 year history of the Gübelin Gem Lab. In accordance with Gübelin tradition, profits are entirely re-invested in new analytical equipment, research & development, and the training of our gemmologists.

As always, since our foundation in the 1920s, we continue our policy of making no distinction between a research gemmologist and a client service gemmologist. The Gübelin gemmologist who analyses your stones will also be engaged on research projects, and making mine visits. We are convinced that this is the only way to build and maintain our level of gemmological excellence.

Again in 2008, the Gübelin Gem Lab offers its services during the BaselWorld exhibition, and will travel regularly to Bangkok, New York and Hong Kong to offer its Off-Premise Testing (OPT) services.
